This book is designed to help you trace your German ancestry in all the many German-speaking areas of Europe.

First, it explores the resources of the LDS Church--in particular, the great International Genealogical Index, which contains hundreds of thousands of entries from German parish registers--then back to the Old Country, where sources and archives are discussed in detail, especially Evangelical and Catholic church records, and those of state and city archives; as well as wills; censuses; civil records of birth, marriage, and death; passenger lists, military records; and more.

Finally, there is are a list of family archives, another of genealogical associations in Germany, a third of German genealogical associations in the U.S., and the work closes with a comprehensive bibliography. This 3rd edition includes addresses with the new 5-digit postal code, and reflects changes brought about by the unification of East Germany and West Germany.
